Micro-TESE

A precise option when sperm is very hard to find.

In short

What is Micro-TESE?

Micro-TESE is a microsurgical procedure to retrieve sperm directly from the testes when there is little or no sperm in the ejaculate. For certain male-factor situations it can make biological fatherhood possible where it otherwise wouldn't be.

When it can help

  • Non-obstructive azoospermia (no sperm in the ejaculate)
  • Selected severe male-factor situations

When Micro-TESE helps

Using an operating microscope, a specialist locates and retrieves small amounts of sperm from the testicular tissue, which can then be used with ICSI.

We discuss this option only when it's clinically suitable for you — never as a default, and never with a guarantee of outcome.

Questions people ask

Is there hope if no sperm is found in the semen?

Often, yes. A finding of no sperm in the ejaculate doesn't always mean none can be retrieved. Micro-TESE can find sperm directly in the testes in selected cases, which can then be used with ICSI. A specialist will assess whether it's appropriate for you.
