What is Hysteroscopy?
Hysteroscopy lets a specialist look directly inside the uterus using a thin camera, to diagnose or treat issues such as polyps, adhesions or some fibroids that can affect fertility or implantation. It's used on clear indication — not as a routine test.
When it can help
- Suspected polyps, adhesions or a cavity-distorting fibroid
- Repeated implantation failure or recurrent pregnancy loss, in selected cases
- Abnormal uterine findings on a scan that need a closer look
When it isn't the answer
- There's no clinical reason to look inside the uterus — it isn't a routine screen.
What hysteroscopy involves
A thin, lighted telescope is passed gently through the cervix so the specialist can see inside the uterus, and treat small issues in the same sitting where appropriate.
Questions people ask
Do I need a hysteroscopy before IVF?
Not always. It's recommended when there's a specific reason — a suspected polyp, adhesion or cavity issue, or after repeated implantation failure. It isn't a routine step for everyone, and we'll only suggest it when there's a clear, individual indication.
